With its crystal clear waters, and array of vibrant, colourful marine life that lives underneath the waves, snorkelling is one of the best things to do on Rottnest Island.

Here are our favourite snorkelling spots:

  • The Basin. A favourite among families and beginners, the Basin features natural reef formation, warm shallow waters, and is in close proximity to the main settlement.
  • Parakeet Bay. Located on the northern side of the island, Parakeet Bay boasts well-protected, clear waters that create safer snorkelling conditions—perfect for the kids.
  • Little Salmon Bay. Explore the snorkelling trail on the southern coast of the island, with a 700m loop that takes you out into the bay. Discover a series of underwater information plaques that tell you more about the plants and sea life that surround you.
  • The Historic Shark Wreck. For the more adventurous snorkellers, the wreck of The Shark lies in shallow water just off Henrietta Rocks, where you can descend underneath and get up close and personal with this piece of Rottnest Island history.
